Description

When we think about communications most of us think about the telephone, or cellphone, and even the Internet. But what happens if those are not available? Amateur Radio Operators have prepared themselves for such emergencies. They stand ready with sometimes-expensive radio equipment to help in natural disasters and other events where devices we take for granted are not available. Amateur Radio (or Ham) Operators are licensed individuals by the Federal Communications Commission. They must take an exam to obtain a license that allows them to operate on certain frequencies.

Radio communications are available to other individuals and with less expensive equipment. In this book, I will start by explaining Family Radio Service (FRS) and the difference between it and Amateur Radio. The difference will also apply to another radio type such as General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). While you do not need a license to operate a Family Radio Service radio you do need a license from the Federal
Communications Commission to transmit on a GMRS radio. In this book, I will cover each of the services that feature the use of Radioddity™ radios and their programming software. The reasons why Radioddity™ radio equipment are featured in the book are mainly because of their quality, reliability, and cost.
